Teenage girls: treatment for scoliosis
Scoliosis is an unusual sideways curving
of the spine that affects girls between 8 to 18 years. This condition
mostly begins as a postural distortion eventually resulting in permanent
deformity. If it allowed to progress, scoliosis could interfere with
the heart, lungs and other fundamental organs. Chiropractic can be used as a treatment for scoliosis.
Three Main
Causes
- Idiopathic unknown cause
- Habitual behavioural routines
- Congenital genetic predisposition
Early detection of this problem is important, regardless of what
causes it.
Scoliosis pain: an evident clue
Vigilant parents will
observe a low hip or high shoulder that makes clothing fit badly. Uneven
shoe wear is another clue. Many times, leg and back pains may also
develop; however, these are usually dismissed as growing pains.
Wait
and Watch?
Scoliosis and scoliosis pain can worsen if it is not tackled in
time. Severe cases of this problem include surgery that attaches steel
rods or unattractive bracing, both of which force the spine to
straighten.
Natural Approach: Scoliosis Treated by Chiropractic
Chiropractic care
offers a natural solution as a successful treatment for scoliosis. A program of certain
adjustments improves the structure and function of the spine. Posture
improves because muscles are strengthened and retrained. Chiropractic
care can last months or more throughout which the spine becomes capable
of righting itself.
We have helped numerous patients who suffered
from scoliosis. Bring in your child today and we can explore
possibilities and discuss any concerns.
Is a particular amount
of sideways curving normal?
No amount of sideways curving is
considered normal. The spine should be straight from the back.
Scoliosis usually results in two curves; a main curve in one direction
along with another curve that goes in the opposite direction.
Does
lack of calcium cause scoliosis?
No, it does not result from
lack of calcium. However, many people believe that uncorrected spinal
damage right from the birth process could be involved with scoliosis.
There are also some that speculate walkers could prematurely affect a
baby’s crawling phase, which is essential for ideal spinal development.
Can
heavy back-packs cause scoliosis?
It maybe a growing
concern, but it is not necessarily true. Ensure your child uses both
shoulder straps to carry bags so that weight is distributed evenly. Also
ensure bags do not surpass 10%-15% of their body weight.
